Carolina Valdez at the Cathedral in Hermosillo, Sonora

Wednesday, December 10th, 2008

Carolina Valdez at the Cathedral in Hermosillo, SonoraJazmin Riley and I visited Hermosillo this past weekend. While we were there we met up with Carolina Valdez, of EME Agency, for a photo shoot.

I’ve visited Mexico once before earlier this year, though this was my first visit to Jazmin’s home town, Hermosillo, Sonora. That being so, finding our final shooting location took some time.

The first location we visited had an interesting stone staircase leading up the side of a hill, it was huge. The problem was the sun was high in the sky and surrounding area provided no shade. Less than ideal.

Our second location, providing much better conditions, was in a small park out in front of the Cathedral. I was able to light Carolina using mostly natural light, with only a little bit of flash to fill in the shadows caused by the afternoon sun. You can see a few more photos from this session here, here and here.

Edgar Garcia as Sweeney Todd

3097512873_bff154535e_oEdgar Garcia approached Lorri Mitchell and I with the idea of doing a Sweeney Todd inspired photo shoot. He and his girlfriend Ashley had dressed up as characters from the movie/play for Halloween this year and already had the clothes required.

I’ve worked with Edgar once before on a shoot, he’s an excellent hair stylist, this was my first time working with him as a model. I decided to shoot the series in downtown Phoenix warehouse I’ve worked in before. The warehouse is operated by the 5th Avenue and Madison Event Center and is host to a lot of cool events. The photo shoot was purely for fun and the photos turned out way better than I expected for a visual style I don’t typically work with.

Check out a behind the scenes photo from this shoot.
